It's Tasha Tudor Day!

Today is Tasha Tudor's birthday, and some of us are celebrating her life and works. To honor the day, I am showing my two books of hers that I purchased in the early 1990's. I also made macaroni and cheese (receipt in the cookbook) for our supper! We really like mac & cheese, and I hope that we enjoy this receipt (that is how Tasha spelled recipe). It is cooling now, and I've got to fix a veg (probably green beans, my favorite) and warm up the roasted chicken. I'll let you know later how it was!

Note: The mac & cheese was good, but I would make it differently next time. I used soymilk, because that's what I had on hand. Next time I make it, I would use a can of evaporated milk. The soymilk left a "vanilla" taste. Live & learn

Prayer Quilt

Yesterday, I attended a meeting of the Prayers & Squares group of Richmond Hill Baptist Church, Boonville, NC. I took some more fabric that I wasn't going to use, also our family cat-quilt for Show & Tell, and received my very own Prayer Quilt!! As you can see by photo number one, Shizuku loves it too, and has claimed it! (Oh my gosh, look at those "lazer-eyes". She's saying "MINE!!") The second photo is the cross on the back of the quilt. Every quilt that they make has a cross like this on it. The third photo is of the label. Click on any of the pictures to take them larger. I feel very blessed to have found this group, and am very honored that they have given me this quilt. I'm going to have to share it with Shizuku though, but after all, it is a cat quilt...what can I say?! Thank you, new friends at RHBC!

**Note to Tanya: The Prayers & Squares group of RHBC said that they would be in prayer for your Prayers & Squares group in Japan. Hands of faith reaching around the world.

Tasha Tudor Day

I saw this photo on Beansieleigh's blog and just had to check it out! I have been a big fan of Tasha Tudor ever since I received a subscription to "Victoria" magazine as a gift. I ended up subscribing for several years. Someone told me lately that Victoria is never more, and that's too bad. Anyway, I have always been fascinated by this lady and her lifestyle. I am going to see if I can order some of her books. I am told that she passed away earlier this year. I wish I could follow in her footsteps.

Good-bye Dorie

I am showing Dorie's birthday photo one last time. I try to keep positive, and not dwell on negative thoughts, so this will be my last tribute to dear Dorie. She will be waiting for me, along with our other kitties we have lost over the past 36 years. Bet Jesus is laughing at her little tricks, and saying "Dorie, get off of that counter, NOW". Life goes on....

Dora is sick/ the bad news

Dora Jean got very sick yesterday and had to be rushed to the Mr.Airy Vet yesterday after hours. He has kept her overnight and we haven't been able to come up with a cause for her problems yet. He did some blood work and sent it off today and it will be back tomorrow. At present, she is on antibiotics and fluids, still at his office. She has been sick, off & on, most of her life (15 months) but this is the most serious of everything yet. Dr. Truban is cautiously optimistic. I am praying, and hope that anyone reading this will ask the Lord to spare her life. She is not the most loving cat, and she is very willful and determined, but she doesn't deserve to suffer. I hope my next post will be a more positive one.

UPDATE: Dora spent 3 days at the Vet's office and this morning he told me that they found Leukemia. We had her put to sleep this morning to protect Shizuku, who we had tested this morning also, and she doesn't have it. I have had to make so many of these "life & death" decisions now. This all happened so fast. Rest in Peace, Pretty Kitty. You will be missed.

Bear Sweater

I call this bear Chuck. He came from the Goodwill store. On his foot is written Harrods 2003, so I am assuming he originally came from England. He is an incredibly soft bear and needed a sweater. I have a favorite Aran bear sweater pattern from www.aranknits.com and it seemed to be the logical choice. He seems to be pleased with his new sweater, so am I. The yarn is McIntosh in "Grapevine" color from Red Heart. It is part wool and part acrylic and I like it alot!
